In conjunction with the opening of the Brooklyn Museum's new entrance pavilion in April 2004, the distinguished American artist Rockman (born 1962) was commissioned to paint a visionary 8-by-24-foot mural about the distant future boroughs. Lee sought out Rockman's vision as an artist with a specific commitment to hand drawing to bring a human scale to the project--a sense of the material and the fortuitous that would come, for example, from the random bloom of watercolor pigment on paper.
