The neurophysiology of electroencephalogram gamma oscillations and their role in brain function, cognitive processes and of altered states of consciousness are described in the opening chapter of Advances in Psychology Research. Volume 137.The second chapter aims to further the understanding of the trauma spectrum disorder conceptualization by examining the content, construct, and criterion validity of this concept, with use of mixed literature reviews and secondary data analyses. The authors go on to provide guidance for the assessment of obsessive-compulsive disorder, addressing the special challenges within long-term care settings and with the increasing geriatric population such as their unwillingness to discuss symptoms because of shame and stigma.Additionally, this compilation reviews the literature on the potential beneficial role of errors, and specifically on students' adaptive reactions and attitudes towards errors, error climate in classrooms, and on teachers' adaptive and/or maladaptive strategies in handling students' errors. The authors continue to reviews literature on youths' cyberbullying involvement by explaining what cyberbullying is, risk factors associated with cyberbullying, and the negative psychological and academic outcomes of cyberbullying involvement. The three main theoretical perspectives which are used to explain role modelling are examined, and furthermore, how media influences this process. The final chapter examines patient preferences for dentists. The sample was composed of 169 Portuguese adults, and participants were asked to indicate their preference for eight dentists who were stratified by gender, age, and training country.

This book examines the range of new theories, research, and applications in the most generative areas of positive psychology, at the dawn of a new wave of positive psychology scholarship—one that is increasingly sensitive to real-world issues, adversity, culture, and context. In the 17 years since the inception of the movement, the field of positive psychology has grown tremendously and inspired research and practice across a range of sub-areas. Scientific Advances in Positive Psychology showcases the wide range of new theories, research, applications, and explorations in what can be termed "the next wave of positive psychology," presenting novel findings and theories that acknowledge and mainstream sensitivity to real-world issues, adversity, culture, and context, in fresh new ways. The contributors to the work—among the best known and most experienced in the field—trace the growth of new developments in each of the key foci of positive psychology, including happiness, character strengths, and gratitude, and document the latest research, theory, and applications. The volume focuses on the contributions and development of positive psychology sub-fields, such as positive organizational psychology and positive youth development, as well as their primary application areas, such as positive education.

Time-to-contact is the visual information that observers use in fundamental tasks such as landing an airplane or hitting a ball. Time-to-contact has been a hot topic in perception and action for many years and although many articles have been published on this topic, a comprehensive overview or assessment of the theory does not yet exist. This book fills an important gap and will have appeal to the perception and action community. The book is divided into four sections. Section one covers the foundation of time-to-contact, Section two covers different behavioral approaches to time-to-contact estimation, Section three focuses on time-to-contact as perception and strategy, and Section four covers time-to-contact and action regulation.
