Addicts at the Cross takes a bold, unabashed stance in stating that the Bible is true: If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed (John 8:36). The 9 steps will walk students to the cross where Christ sets the captives free. These steps aren’t magic, but a willing and determined pursuit of freedom through them will guide the student to a place where overcoming addiction is assured. Society tells us poverty, lack of education, and unemployment are the underlying causes of addiction. Though strong families and education are vital supports for a stable society as they help a person discover how to act and what to do, the roots of addiction develop and grow from “who” the person is. This 9 step study is designed to dredge up the soil of the addict's heart and uproot the underlying causes of addiction, thereby genuinely setting the addict free.

A Christian 9 Step Program Addicts at the Cross takes a bold, unabashed stance in believing that what the Bible says is true. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed (John 8:36). The nine steps have worked again and again. In fact, the only time the nine steps haven't worked is when an individual didn't sincerely want to deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Christ. The world tries to change people from the outside in. People are told that they fail because they grew up in dysfunctional homes or in a poor neighborhood, or because they lack education. However, highly educated, rich people also become addicts, are involved in heinous crimes, and fail in general. The world says addicts failed because they were unable to find work. Yet many men and women have good jobs and still end up in prison. Is it genetics? Some say that addicts have flawed genes or they were born that way, and as a result, they are permanently disabled. Out of all the excuses offered to us by the world, this is the saddest. A genetically flawed person may be beyond hope, but alcoholics can and do recover - they are not without hope. If we call sin what it is, then we have an opportunity to overcome that sin and be healed. If we call sin what it is, then we can accept what Christ did for us on the cross, we can be forgiven, and we can be changed.

A transformation is Gods answer for any and all types of addiction and it is only found at the foot of the Cross where Jesus was crucified. This transformation process begins when we are no longer thinking the way the world thinks, but instead are thinking about and viewing life as God thinks and views it. This new way of thinking comes from saturating our minds with Scripture. Cross Talking is a 45-day devotional that will teach you Gods perspective on what is the will of God, what is good, and acceptable and perfect.

Teen Challenge, also known as Adult and Teen Challenge, was founded as an evangelistic outreach to drug addicts in Brooklyn, New York City. As a holistic Christian ministry with the life- changing message of the gospel, this faith-based rehabilitation program was created with the vision that God can redeem the whole person, starting on day one of the program. This unique approach has produced success rates of over 70% for those who complete the rehabilitation program. However, as Teen Challenge has grown worldwide, with over 1,400+ centers in 129 countries, some centers are now turning to secular methods in order to access government funding. As co-founder of Teen Challenge, Don Wilkerson raises a warning flag on this mission drift: the power of the Cross, which brings about a changed life, must be the priority in treating drug addiction; if the Cross is not central to the mission of any Teen Challenge center, then it is not worthy of using the name Teen Challenge. The ministry must never lose its vision and focus in bringing men and women to Christthrough the gospel and discipleshipand stay faithful to the original mission which the founders stood upon.

Does Christianity have an answer for addiction? As longtime pastor Mike Quarles’s alcoholism worsened over eight years, churches and Christians referred him to treatment, 12-Step programs, therapy...nothing worked. Steve McVey, also a pastor, repeatedly dished out the same advice Mike received, with similarly poor results... ...Until, in their frustration, God led them back to basic, addiction-breaking truths of His Word. The authors explain these for readers who want to help someone or who struggle themselves, because freedom from addiction is found only when Christians fully believe what God says about their identity move beyond the 12-Step concept of inescapable “addict identity” stop harboring unforgiveness, get radically right with God, and dwell in who they are in Christ, which excludes engaging in addictive behaviors as a lifestyle Material on codependency is included, as is information on implementing recovery/support groups for those leaving addiction and starting to live in God’s glorious freedom.
