Excerpt from A Treatise Navigation: For the Use of Students Having been engaged for more than twenty years in preparing candidates for the different examinations into which Navigation enters, I have felt the want of a text book which will embrace all that the different examining boards embody under that head. Those engaged in teaching know the difficulty in inducing pupils to study a subject from more than one text book: I have, there fore, hitherto taught the advanced part of Navigation from notes. These I have now enlarged, and have cast them into the form found in the present treatise, hoping thereby to render some slight service to those who wish to obtain a scientific knowledge of the subject.
