Excerpt from A Short Practice in Gynaecology The present edition of "A Short Practice of Gynaecology" has been submitted to a careful revision throughout, so as to make it represent, as far as possible in a book of the size, the present state of gynaecological practice. In particular, the chapters dealing with operations have been largely rewritten, and much new matter added to them. My publishers have further consented to the addition of a large number of illustrations, for which concession I am very grateful, as it is impossible satisfactorily to describe gynaecological operations without the help of numerous illustrations. A number of the old illustrations have been redrawn. The majority of the new drawings of operations were made from the dead subject by Mr. Sewill, and I am particularly indebted to Dr. Francis Dixon, Professor of Anatomy in Dublin University, for his kindness in placing subjects at my disposal for this purpose. I am also indebted to Dr. Rowlette, pathologist to Dr. Steevens' and the Rotunda Hospitals, for correcting the sections which deal with gynaecological pathology, and to Dr. Kirkpatrick and Dr. Drury for reading the proof sheets. Messrs. Smith and Shepherd have kindly provided a number of wood blocks of instruments. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Practice of Gynecology: In Original Contributions by American Authors Wherever clearness, vividness, or more abundant information could be conveyed by illustrations they have been liberally employed both in colors and black. Most of them are original, but the Editor has not hesitated to enrich the series with selections when it appeared that no improvement could be made in their delineation of desired points. He is much indebted to Dr. E. C. Dudley's excellent Gynecology for a number of the text engravings and full-page plates. Excerpt from Gynecological Diagnosis We have to do in this book with the question of diagnosis alone and it will be my endeavor to point out how best to make it. More stress will be laid on the interpretation of symptoms and signs in the light of experience than is usual in text-books on gynecology because it is thought thereby to help the practitioner.
