God calls his people to be holy. What does this mean? Holiness means belonging to God and being stamped with his character. This belonging is expressed for ancient Israel in the story of the foundational events on Mount Sinai. The idea is then developed, refined and transformed through the establishment of the priesthood, the gift of the Law, the challenge of the prophets and, in the New Testament, through the life of Christ. This book sets out these perspectives alongside each other, and considers their interplay within the canon of scripture as a whole. The result is both a biblical theology of holiness and a promising model for reinterpreting one text in the light on another.

Teaching on the sanctification of Christians using the difficult word perfection has been part of Christian spirituality through the centuries. The Fathers spoke of it and Augustine particularly contributed his penetrating analysis of human motivation in terms of love. Medieval theologians such as Bernard and Thomas Aquinas developed the tradition and wrote of levels or "degrees" of "perfection" in love. However, the doctrine has not fared so well among Protestants. John Wesley was the one major Protestant leader who tried to blend this ancient tradition of Christian "perfection" with the Reformation proclamation of justification by grace through faith. This book seeks to develop Wesley's synthesis of patristic and Reformation theology in order to consider how Christian "perfection" can be expressed in a more nuanced way in today's culture. Noble examines what basis may be found for Wesley's understanding of sanctification in the central doctrines of the church, particularly the atonement, the doctrine of Christ, and the most comprehensive of all Christian doctrines, the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. What he sets out is a fully trinitarian theology of holiness.

"Can Jewish tradition face our modern understanding of justice, equality, and human progress? The author addresses ancient and modern moral questions. Building on biblical and rabbinic traditions, he analyzes how Jewish ethics relates to Jewish law, fairness, equality, and compassion, as well as the challenge of religious violence. This provides food for thought on subjects ranging from gender, freedom, and military ethics to Jewish particularism and contemporary universalism"--

This sequel to Gordon Lathrop's highly successful Holy Things is an exercise in liturgical theology, viewing the activities of worship as a means of defining and discussing the concept church. It centers on community and assembly to discuss the sacraments. It focuses on ecumenism and inculturation as central test cases for a liturgically derived idea of church. In hopes of invigorating the local church, Lathrop explores the meaning of the term church, the relationship of the local liturgical assembly and other Christian assemblies (catholicity); the personal and communal character of liturgical assembly; the unity of the churches; the critical principles of liturgy and culture; openness to what is radically other; and liturgical evangelization. Lathrop's work grounds a notion of church that is personal yet communal, universal, but not triumphalistic.

We are engaged in the conflict of the ages and for the first time in this generation, the sons of the Kingdom are awakening to the reality that the Kingdom has, is and will continue to come. It is not limited to a lifetime, generation or millennium. The defeated-one has been stripped of his rank power and authority. He is an interloper and usurper who no longer has a right to rule and reign. He is using deception and division to advance his anti-messianic message, and strong delusion, hatred, and intimidation to forward his agenda. He knows that we are not waiting to win. We won 2000 years ago. We are THE CHOSEN. This is our day and VICTORY is ours for the taking."As long as one son is alive on planet earth, the defeated-one will never again rise to power."His sons are awakening to the reality that WHAT we are doing is not working very well and they are also becoming aware that we have been sorely misinformed about a great many things. The order and government of Yahweh is both uncomfortable and disconcerting to the orphan of our soul, but then the son in us begins to surrender by the Spirit to the Sovereign will and authority of the King and His Domain. It is my hope that the revelatory knowledge contained in this book will provide a workable solution that produces Kingdom results."The gospel of the Kingdom is good news. Beware of those who make it about coming events."It is my prayer that this book will challenge all of us to continue to think outside of the box when it comes to our quest for TRUTH.
