Feldman spent two years transcribing the five separate vocabularies of a corpus called the Viana dictionary of the Poqom Maya from photocopies and copy flows. The core of the dictionary that translates the Maya into Spanish was written by Dominican friar Francisco Viana (1528-1608), who arrived in Guatemala in 1556. Feldman has re-alphabetized the text, removed duplications and fragments that are too incomplete to have any meaning, and added material from other sources when useful.
