A crazy ride, a special treasure, tears of joy, enormous pleasure, wonder of the highest grade, deepest thoughts are on parade, all the things you shouldn't miss, better than the perfect kiss. You'll laugh, you'll cry, so good you'll die. Worth a first and second look and more than all the time it took. Oh... I also made this book. Actual book description: Enter the odd world of B.C. Byron where slightly dead cats and giant spiders are beloved pets, every food can go in the blender, and changing socks is only for fancy folks. 48 poems, 90 pages, filled to the brim with hilarious, witty, and slightly gross stories and illustrations for kids 6 to teen. Spewberty, Nose Goblin, Always Drink the Juice, and Feeling Fancy are just a few of the other favorites in this memorable, quotable, and surprising collection. About the author: B.C. Byron is a prolific writer of odd poems inspired by childhood, science, and everyday things. Beside writing books, he also posts new poems and does his own illustrations weekly on his blog at bcbyron.com. He's also an electrical engineer, husband, father of 3 girls, and owner of a bunny that likes to eat his shoelaces.

A scientist contemplates his bond with a sick stray cat in this “gripping and powerful” memoir (The San Diego Union-Tribune). Bill Jordan’s life changed forever the day a stray cat nesting under his bougainvillea bit him on the hand. Trained in biology, Jordan had no particular love for animals and felt vaguely contemptuous of those who did—until the cat, beckoning with a wink and a yawn, led him on a journey to exotic lands, strange cultures, and fascinating discoveries. As their bond deepened and the cat’s health began to fail, Jordan was forced into a commitment more devoted and sincere than any he had known before. Puzzling through his own feelings, Jordan came to some remarkable conclusions: that those we love live in the synapses and molecules of memory, and that as long as we exist, they exist as part of our brain. In this recollection of the relationship, he meditates on the nature of humans and animals, and the scientific truths about solitude, communication, and companionship.

Cats! Love 'em or hate 'em, they have a way of insinuating themselves into your affections and into your life. Retired schoolmistress Josephine Reid hated cats. Nasty, flea-ridden, bird-murdering pests - she would've preferred to share her home with vermin than one of those loathsome creatures. So when her grandchildren found a lost kitten in her garden and begged her to look after it for them until they had a suitable home for it, Josephine was appalled. Reluctantly, she agreed - on condition that the arrangement was purely temporary. However, it took a great deal longer than anyone expected before the children were able to offer their kitten a home, during which time initial animosity gave way to tolerance and finally a tentative bond, growing stronger as time passed, formed between ex-school mistress and cat, only to be broken when the family moved to their new home with a garden. Appalled by the realisation that herself and the cat, christened "Mikey" by the children, were about to be separated, Josephine is forced to confront her feelings and admit she has grown fond of the creature, though she realizes she has little choice but to let him go. Mikey, however, has other ideas!

Cleo was bought from a registered breeder, who was at the time my husband’s work mate and who brought some adorable Siamese kittens to the television station. He couldn’t resist them and soon after brought home one little screamy bundle. The kitten was with us through ups and downs moving from a rented flat to our own unit and then to our newly built home and garden, where she lived for most of her life. It was incredible how quickly she would adapt to a new place yet those were the matters that worried us most. Cleo’s arrival changed our life. In a way she taught us, in her dignified way, to be more attentive to her needs while at the same time she was a willing learner to our commands. We became less selfish and more caring. It was clear to us we had a great responsibility looking after this tiny, helpless living being, who was depending on us to live, to survive. To be able to do that, the most important thing is LOVE for animals. People are not bad people because they cannot or want not to have pets. Therefore, it is not a good idea to give a little kitten as a gift to anyone. An individual has to make his/her own decision weather or not he/she would have sufficient love, time and money to care for a pet.
