The idea behind the 4-2-5 defense is to give a less talented defensive unit the flexibility and opportunity to compete. There will no longer be that helpless feeling when your opponent turns up their level of play and you have no answer for it. This book gives you the multiplicity and simplicity to keep offenses guessing and limits their play selection. It is also simple enough to allow the defensive personnel to be good at what they do. This will allow you to set up a game plan for any answers a offense might have and then use the other phases of this defensive scheme to cause them new problems. This book gives you the basics needed to install the 4-2-5 Fronts, Coverage's, Line Stunts and Blitz packages.

High school defenses face very different offensive attacks week in and week out. The challenge is not changing your defense every week in order to defend pass-happy formations and smashmouth running attacks. The answer is to combine the strengths of a 4-man front with the PASS strengths of two safety coverages, that can be ran with the players walking the high school hallway. And due to low football IQ and limited film study time, the high school defense must be easy to learn. The strength of the 4-2-5 is the conversion of traditional OLBs to SAFETIES because you have 5 DBs to adjust to all the formation and motion changes in today's high school football. HEAD UP ALIGNMENTS: by a 0-tech NG and a 4-tech DT who slants weak, putts them in the same position as traditional 1 and 3-techniques once the ball is snapped. Blockers don't know which gap they are going to slant in, easy transition from 4 man to 3 man front, and uncovered guards give clean run/pass reads. DIVORCED FRONT and SPLIT FIELD: separates run & pass strengths allowing multiple looks while being simple to learn. Splitting formations in half reduces every offensive formation to 8 alignments. Split Field narrows teaching 4 coverages vs only 8 alignments and follows the "+1" rule. EVERY DAY DRILLS (EDDs): for every position. RUN FIT DEFENSE: forces the RB into a narrow "alley" outnumbered him 3 to 1. Everyone's job remains the same in both the 3-4 & 4-2 fronts. ILB read uncovered guards for clean reads and aggressive reactions. DL keeps the offensive lineman off the linebackers. Secondary provides the force, alley, and contain players.GAME PLANNING and SCOUTINGEDITABLE DROP BOX FILESEditable playsheets, wristbands, scouting reports, practice schedules drills, and Powerpoints.

I do not believe in calling an offensive play where you don't know how, why and where the defense will be aligned. The alternative is to call offensive plays hoping the defense will be aligned where you want them to be. But, hope is not a strategy. And it does not have to be if you understand that the offensive play caller determines how and where the defense aligns by his use of offensive formations. Using Offensive Formations to Dictate Defensive Alignment is a book that details how to use your offensive formations with no tight ends and tight ends versus various defensive fronts to make a defense align where you want them to. 2x1, 2x2, 3x1 and 3x2 formations with and without tight ends are diagrammed versus 4-3, 3-4, 3-3-5 and Bear defensive fronts. Coach Renner gives you over 70 specific diagrams that detail where each defender in these defense will align. He points out the run weaknesses and pass weaknesses for each defense versus the formations as well. Every defensive alignment detailed in this book was taken from practically applying these formations in game conditions, studying the film and confirming it. Coach Renner details how a change in formation affects a defensive player's responsibility to your advantage. He shows you the ways to use your formations to the boundary or field with a tight end or without a tight end to manipulate defensive alignment. He also shows you the advantage of having an unbalanced formation as part of your offense. Over a span of 10 years, using this formation philosophy Coach Renner's offense has passed for 27,117 yards, rushed for 14.022 yards with 255 passing touchdowns and 177 rushing touchdowns. These results were achieved at 4 different high schools in 2 different states, Virginia and North Carolina. This diversity demonstrates that using formations as Coach Renner explains can have the same effect on a defense no matter where it is coached. If you strive to understand how your offense cannot be held captive to a defensive alignment or attack this information is what you need.

An effective running game begins with using the right blocking schemes versus the defensive scheme you are facing. As a veteran football coach of 30 years, Coach Renner has acquired game tested knowledge of run blocking schemes and applied it to a system that can be reproduced. He coached the offensive line for 17 years as a head coach. Using over 50 blocking diagrams he details blocking schemes for inside zone, outside zone, counter, trap, sweep, power and belly. He shows how to use them with or without a tight end in the formation and how to attack a 4-3, 4-2-5, 3-4, 3-5-3 and Bear defense. He describes defensive line techniques and diagrams what blocking scheme works best to attack it. He shows how to use formations to put the defensive linemen and linebackers in the right place to attack them with a good blocking scheme. He details and diagrams the blocking scheme that works best versus each defensive lineman's technique. He shares with you his process of using formations, ball field position and blocking schemes to call a good run play every time. As a result, his offense has scored in 142 straight games, won 70% of their games over the past 10 years and won championships. This was accomplished at four different high schools in two different states with only one division 1 lineman. It proves you don't need big lineman. You just need to use technique, leverage and a blocking scheme that takes advantage of the defender's techniques. How to Call Football Run Plays to Attack Defensive Linemen and Linebackers Technique details a blocking system that will do that.

MatchQuarters provides a detailed look at how to build a hybrid defense. In football's cyclical nature, it is important to have a malleable and adaptive defense. A Complete Guide to the Hybrid 4-2-5 expands the horizons for what a basic 4-2-5 defense can be. A modern defense needs to bounce from even, and odd spacing fits and house a comprehensive coverage scheme that includes MOFO, MOFC, and man coverages. But how does a defense do this without overloading its players? Simple cannot mean simplistic in today's game. Static fronts and coverages will lead to explosive plays. The book is designed to establish a pathway for multiple schemes while keeping the structure simple for the players. A hybrid defense is a must in the ever-changing landscape of a spread-dominant football world. The need for a pass rush is a premium, and the best way to do that is align in a four-man front. The goal of the book is to make the complex simple. Whether a coach, player, fan, or journalist, the book provides a way to comprehend the game's evolution. One of the most essential parts of this is creating concise language and engagement rules. Within the pages of this book, you will find just that. Come learn the "Art of X."
